Dear Mountain Vista community,
We want to inform you of an incident that occurred at school today, February 19. This afternoon Mountain Vista was placed on a precautionary lockout by the request of the Colorado Springs Police Department. We cooperated with CSPD immediately to ensure the safety of our students. A lockout means that all doors are locked, and no one can leave or enter the building. The school was on lockout for approximately an hour and forty-five minutes with no incident. Classroom instruction continued as normal inside the building. The police investigation is still taking place and we will continue to cooperate with CSPD. In addition, from this point forward the front entry of the school will be locked.
The Mountain Vista staff and CSPD worked together quickly to ensure the safety of our students, and dismissal resumed as normal by the end of the school day.
We tried to communicate with parents as efficiently and quickly as possible during the lockout through phone calls and text notifications. Please check with the front office registrar that your cell phone number is correct in Infinite Campus. To ensure that you receive notifications, you must be signed up to receive text notifications and emergency alerts in Infinite Campus.
We appreciate the cooperation of our parents and staff today. Everyone responded appropriately and professionally to ensure the safety of our students.
